The Legacy

Thirty Years.
One Pursuit.

In 2018, the American Morgan Horse Association presented David Rand with the Richard E. Lavery Professional Horseman Award — the highest honor in professional horsemanship. It is not given lightly. It is given to the person who, across a career, has elevated the sport itself.

It started simply — a pony down the road, a horse in the backyard, and a kid with a passion for training. David spent formative years working Saddlebreds in Kentucky, then found his greatest calling in the Morgan. When he established Rand Stables at the York, Maine farm, it felt like a homecoming — the place where his most celebrated work would reach its highest expression.

The AMHA Trainer of the Decade distinction came from sustained excellence, not one hot season. Public records tie the Rand program to horses like Queen's Sebastian GCH, Ledgefields Jagged Edge, Lamborghini in Black, and LPS The Boogie Man.

The point of the barn is not noise. It is horsemanship, judgment, and results that stand up when you check them.

Why The Barn Lands

What Makes It Endure

Barn standard
Personal attention at every level

David's public bio makes the point directly: from weanlings to mature show and breeding horses, each one receives his personal attention.

Program shape
A real spectrum, not a narrow niche

The Rand program spans young riders, amateurs, breeding horses, and world-level campaigners. That breadth is part of what gives the barn staying power.

Why it matters
Public proof, not just atmosphere

The strongest public receipts are clear: Lavery Award, Trainer of the Decade, AMHA Man of the Year, and a world-title trail tied to Queen's Sebastian GCH, Lamborghini in Black, Ledgefields Jagged Edge, and LPS The Boogie Man.
